Last year the students of Alliance Academy piloted the Alliance Academy Student Council. The committee consisted of representatives elected from each grade level 4th through 8th. This committee championed a number of projects including the publishing of Alliance’s first ever yearbook for the 2006-2007 calendar year. This committee was instrumental in motivating an entire student body and Empowered them to play an active role in their school’s success.

In recognition of its many successes and accomplishments last year, the committee will add a new facet to their agenda this year entitled the “Student Success Team.”

The Student Success Team’s mission:
To learn the leadership skills necessary to become successful in their own academic and personal lives and to use these skills to role model for their peers in order to hold one another accountable.

To do so, The Student Success Team has adopted “Keystone,” a module found in the “Capturing Kid’s Hearts Curriculum” founded by Flip Flippen. The Student Success Team will use this piece to establish a “Golden Tree” rewards system that acknowledges students for their acts of Kindness, Courage, Self-Control, Forgiveness, Respect, Diligence, Loyalty, Honesty, and Confidence.

The Student Success Team will also be responsible for the following In-service, Community Building, Issue Awareness, and Partnership Projects and Activities.
Daily Announcements- featuring skits that include behavioral tips, inspirational quotes, and other pertinent information regarding Alliance.
School Bus Safety Patrol- featuring violence prevention methods and rewards for exemplary bus behavior.
Community Building- including walk-a-thons, forums and fundraising for issue awareness, and the 2007 Thanksgiving food drive.
Quarterly Attendance Rewards program- acknowledging an exemplary attendance record with a special reward i.e. skate or swim parties, etc.

The Alliance Academy Staff, Student Council and the Student Success Team would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following students on these outstanding accomplishments this past school year!

• In May of 2007, National Heritage Academies held its first Moral Focus Writing Contest. Of the 51 schools that participated, Brianna Jackson, 5th grade, took 2nd place overall in the poetry division!
Mia Price, 4th grade, scored the highest overall in the NWEA Math section of the test, placing Mia in the 97th percentile for NWEA tests takers!

More information regarding Student Council and Student Success Team projects and events will be forth coming as the school year progresses. With such great things in place we again look forward to the promise of a great start to the new school year!
